National Convention 2005 Memories
American Legion Auxiliary
|Department of Mississippi
Members of the Department of Mississippi traveled great
distances to Honolulu, Hawaii, for the 2005 National Convention.
2004-05 Department President Janice Crosby, left, led the charge.
As every Auxiliary member knows well, we love to take
pictures. Pictured above our our delegates, seated on
the front row as we achieved second place in the nation
for highest membership goal. On the top right, Patricia
Trest served as one of our pages. Below Patricia, a
couple of our members talk with National President
Sandi Dutton before the gavel sounded.
Here are two group photos of delegates and attending members--the top photo was taken
in the Atrium lobby of the Convention Center, while the group photo below was taken of
those attending the Past Presidents Luncheon. Above right, Janice posed with luncheon
guest of honor Barbara Mandrell, country music legend. Above left, Angela Kilcrease
experiences her first National Convention.
Of course, plenty of sightseeing and adventures were to be had on the beautiful island.
Above left, Janice, Glenda, and Shirley, along with hubbies, visited the Punchbowl
cemetery, home of many of our fallen heroes from Pearl Harbor. All of our members made
sure to visit the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial, a very moving and solemn experience. The
beauty of the island was, well, beautiful--oh, and the flowers were everywhere!
We enjoyed many functions and meetings. Above, the States Banquet was another
opportunity for the Legion family to gather and enjoy each other's company, good food, and
wonderful entertainment. Even the table roses (above left) were uniquely decorated for our
enjoyment. The food had a tropical flair. In the bottom right frame, Rosemary Merriman
shared a dance with the evening's birthday boy, Jack Kilcrease, celebrating his 68th birthday.
All in all, it was an enjoyable trip, one we will always remember!
